The margin on a 20-dress pack: the full calculation
Here is the arithmetic we run before pricing every pack, using our best seller as the example: the Dresses Mix pack of 20 garments.
The pack
Dresses Mix Bestseller pack, 20 dresses new with tags, assorted sizes and styles. Brands it may contain: JDY, Pieces, VILA, Vero Moda, Zara, Mango, H&M, Stradivarius, among others. Price: €185 (€9.25 per garment). Average retail price: around €60 per dress.
Total entry cost
Pack €185 + shipping from €6.95 = total from €191.95. Cost per garment from €9.60.
Base case: selling at 50 % of retail
Selling price: €30 per dress. Revenue: 20 × €30 = €600.
Fees: on Vinted the buyer pays them (€0 for you). On Wallapop, with Wallapop Envíos the buyer covers the fee too. If you sell through your own online shop with a payment gateway, budget 2-3 % (around €15).
Net profit: 600 − 192 = €408. Margin on sales: 68 %. Return on investment: 2.1 times what you put in.
Conservative case: fast rotation at 40 % of retail
You sell at €24 to clear the pack in a month. Revenue: €480. Profit: €288. Return: 1.5 times what you put in.
Mixed case (the most realistic)
14 dresses at 50 % (€30) = €420; 6 dresses on offer at 40 % (€24) = €144. Revenue: €564. Profit: €372.
What changes as you size up
With the 50-dress pack (€345, €6.90 per garment) the cost per garment drops by €2.35 and shipping is calculated by weight. Same base case: 50 × €30 = €1,500 revenue, €345 cost, €1,155 profit. Every euro you shave off the cost per garment is €50 more margin on the pack.
And if you go Premium
Dresses Premium pack, 20 garments: €660 (€33 per garment), average retail €280. At 50 % of retail you sell at €140: 20 × €140 = €2,800 revenue and €2,140 profit. It turns over more slowly than Mix, but the margin per sale is seven times higher. We suggest starting with Mix and moving to Premium once you have 50 reviews.
Time invested
Photographing and listing 20 new dresses: 2-3 hours. Handling shipping for 20 sales: 3-4 hours spread over the month. Six to seven hours in total for €372-408 of profit: between €55 and €65 per hour worked.
